The European Advertising Certificate is a remote learning programme produced by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA). It aims to enhance the knowledge of young professionals in agencies so that they can perform their roles with confidence and expertise. It is based on the IPA Foundation Certificate which has become a rite of passage for everyone entering the UK industry, with more than 10,000 people passing the exam since its inception in 2003.
IAPI administers the European Advertising Certificate in Ireland. It's the benchmark foundation level qualification for people working in European advertising agencies. The Certificate is an opportunity for young professionals with up to three years experience in the Communications industry to obtain a foundation level qualification.
The exam is open to people from all disciplines and learning takes place online. There are seven learning paths or modules in total, covering all aspects of the brand communication process. The course builds on the learning you’ve already acquired: from your studies, in your agency, through job or external training, or further education courses. The exam takes place in Dublin on 26 April 2018 and IAPI will arrange and invigilate.

The EAC is extremely beneficial in gaining an understanding of how each arm of the industry works. This breadth of knowledge is important in our industry as it helps build and maintain working relationships: understanding the different kinds of pressure that a client may be under in the larger marketing arena can help shape presentations and even strategies. For both creative and media agencies, gaining that insight into how each operates and the different processes involved helps each other to create an effective campaign. This is the real advantage that this course has over any other.

I would really recommend this course to anyone who is in the first few years of their advertising career. As the industry is so fast paced and there are so many moving parts it can be hard to feel as though you have a full grasp of what is going on around you. The course content was useful for me in understanding not only more about my own role as a strategic planner but of all other disciplines in my agency.
