The Abbey Theatre have been supporting and developing the very best in Irish acting talent for over a century. Their artistic team offers in-house training, workshops and one to one coaching for a range of groups including: professional actors, teachers, writers, and also business professionals to help them realize their creative potential.

The Abbey in partnership with IAPI have created a training day around the power of the spoken word.

Using skills from the stage, this workshop will help you to communicate in a more engaging and impactful way.  The approach used is both technical and creative. It combines work on physical awareness and presence with practical exercises to extend the range, power and clarity of the voice. We will be using some of the great speeches and soliloquies from Shakespeare to Seamus Heaney to stretch you physically, vocally and imaginatively. You will be given the tools to lift the words off the page and breathe life into them, to connect to your audience with confidence and ease.

This course is limited to 10 participants ONLY to allow for adequate time on the stage per participant. Space is very limited and early booking is advisable

  • As part of this workshop, you will be required to prepare and present a short presentation.

It was a great day and the methodology was brilliant. The presenting itself was challenging, especially being on stage. Watching and learning from others was also of great use. It was well organised and the venue was a real treat. Andrea was fantastic and her energy was something else! - Ellen McCarthy, Client Associate, Starcom

I really enjoyed the day overall. The one on one sessions in the afternoon were extremely beneficial. Everyone in the group wanted different things from the day e.g controlling nerves, focus, engaging with your audience - I felt everyone came away feeling more confident. I would highly recommend it. - Susan Nelis, Account Manager, Rothco

Andrea Ainsworth is an expert in her field of speech and the spoken word. Absolutely everyone will learn something from Andrea; from the most nervous to the most polished presenter. Andrea has a lovely style and puts everyone at ease, is inclusive and empathetic, imparting her wisdom with a light touch. Highly recommend. - Ronan Traynor, Managing Director, Verve
