About Mike Smallwood

Mike has a successful background in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector and is passionate about helping organisations to develop and execute strategies to significantly drive revenue, growth and profitability.

Highly experienced in providing strategic guidance to organisational leaders, and teams, going through complex periods of change, Mike is proficient in successfully navigating a myriad of channels and options to achieve positive outcomes. He holds a BA in Business Studies & Marketing and has also completed the world renowned Advanced Management Programme (AMP) at Harvard Business School.

Experience to date encompasses the leadership of large, cross-functional teams of 500+ staff, encouraging collaboration through engaging leadership and providing motivation to ensure individual potential is achieved. Mike’s media and agency experience includes Group M, Flextech TV, The Mill, Mindshare and Lowe Howard Spink.


From April 2015 - September 2017 Mike was Founding Managing Director of Greenhouse GroupM were he established a new format, full service media investment agency to specifically service Lloyd’s Banking Group’s entire portfolio, developing and implementing a dedicated top-down strategy to target consumers on strategic digital platforms with a £100M budget. As senior point of contact for the Client Team particularly the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Communications, Mike :

  • Recruited a team of 70+ media specialists across all aspects of UK media investment to lead transformation of marketing activity from analogue to digital focus.
  • Achieved performance requirements and metrics through constant refinement, appraisal and review.
  • Established new working practices in collaboration with media specialists for data-informed and digitally delivered strategies.
  • Ensured maximum impact on delivery and challenged executive resistance to change by conducting a ‘test & learn’ approach and regularly revising strategies.
